THE RESCUE & ADOPTION PROCESS

If you’re interested in adopting, be sure to check out our adoptable pets and fill out an adoption application. If you’re looking to surrender, check out our resources page and email braveanimalrescue@gmail.com.

There are a variety of reasons why animals end up in our care. We take in many local cats and kittens in an effort to support Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives. We firmly believe spaying and neutering community cats is the answer to lowering feline euthanasia rates in shelters. We also frequently rescue dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens from high-kill animal control agencies and shelters in the South and Midwest. Often, being pulled by a rescue is their only hope of survival. We also work with individuals who are no longer able to care for their pet. No matter the situation, we do our best to provide direct support or resources.

Brave Animal Rescue is a foster home-based rescue, meaning our animals are cared for in our homes and we do not have a physical shelter. When a pet is rescued, they take refuge in a foster home where they have all the time they need to decompress and adjust. Our pets are truly treated like family in their foster homes. Our volunteers show incredible love, patience, and commitment to getting our rescues ready for your family. They work on potty training, basic commands, and anything else they might need before being adopted. Our foster homes are the cornerstone of our rescue!

Before adoption, we ensure our pets are healthy and that they have received any treatment they need. All cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, dewormed, treated for fleas/ticks as needed, microchipped, FIV/FeLV tested, and receive age-appropriate vaccinations. Our dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, dewormed, treated for fleas/ticks as needed, microchipped, heartworm tested when appropriate, and receive age-appropriate vaccinations. We often acquire animals needing further veterinary care and we are committed to getting them the treatment they need.

If you’re looking to adopt, we keep our website up to date with available pets. We promote our animals through a variety of channels including websites like Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet, Facebook, Instagram, and in-person events. When you see a pet you’re interested in adopting, the first step is to fill out the application found on our website. We are an all-volunteer staff and will review your application within the 1-5 days.  Preference is given to applicants with verified vetting history, home ownership, and, for dogs, those with a fenced in yard. (Please make sure to call your previously used veterinarian and give them permission to release records to us.)

After your application to adopt is approved, we can hopefully set up a time for you to meet our pet! For dog and puppy adoptions, we ask that you bring your resident dogs to meet the dog/puppy you would like to adopt. If you are interested in adopting a cat, we first hold a Zoom meeting. With Zooms, adopters get to see the kitten in their natural environment, talk with an adoption coordinator, and chat with the foster family. If you decide you want to adopt, we arrange a time to meet at an adoption coordinator's house to sign the contract and take your kitty home! We offer a 10 day trial period before finalizing the adoption, just to make sure everything works out.

If during the meet and greet all parties are in agreement the pet is a match for you, you are able to adopt and take home that day! We will always coordinate the specifics with you beforehand to ensure the adoption process is smooth-going and stress free. Because we are a foster home-based rescue, we either rent a facility to hold the adoptions or hold them in an adoption coordinator's home. We are committed to being a resource and source of encouragement for our adopters for the lifetime of their Brave Rescue pet. We look forward to working with you!
